Travel Termination

More from the Waverley Rail Trail (http://www.monash.vic.gov.au/recreation/bike.htm#waverley) this time looking at its transition from an “Off Road Shared Path” to an “Informal Bike Route”. Again sporting the delightful instruction for cyclists to dismount and walk their bikes, except this time cleverly hidden behind the bushes.

Riding towards Glen Waverley across the intersection and along the “Informal Bike Route” up Coleman Parade (pictured in the background) cyclists are obliged to dismount and walk across the pedestrian crossing before continuing on the road.

Without any thought/consultation/surveying Coleman Parade also had its lanes narrowed from wide enough for cyclists and cars to share each direction down to narrow enough that a cyclist cannot comfortably ride with cars passing, making a mockery of the councils “Informal Bike Route”. Forcing cyclists riding up a hill to either block traffic or illegally ride on the footpath is unlikely to win praise from any party to the situation.
