bicycle lane against parked cars

Wrong Side Out

This historic and outdated relic sits in place as evidence of misguided attempts to deliver cycling infrastructure in Melbourne. Despite recent works to the tram lanes adding protected (with concrete barriers) stops for passengers and high kerbs to segregate the trams and other vehicles, the decaying line work has remained.

This blue vehicle is unloading its passengers who then stood in the bicycle lane blocking my path and tried to “shoo” me into the traffic lane. These dangerous lanes without the Austroads mandated “safety strip” between the parking bays and the bicycle lane are sadly being repainted in their inside out form across Melbourne so they’re unlikely to disappear any time soon.
