Exceptional Event

Melbourne was gearing up for a big weekend with a fun run shutting down substantial parts of the road network and a city wide festival of music. At close of business on the Friday efforts were already underway for something but trying to find information about what exactly was going on in Queensbrige Square was like a perverse internet scavenger hunt with neither the councils public space database or the music festivals programme providing any clues (there is still no solid answer as to what was going on).

But it should be plain to see whatever was going on had no consideration whatsoever for the public, looking closely the truck was even ringed with safety bollards and flagged tape directing pedestrians around it and onto the bicycle crossing. Across the road the events run on the Casino land have always made obvious efforts to minimise disruption and complete work outside of busy times as much as possible but here on public land instead the event organisers are concerned only with their priorities and expense.
